Description:
The Spanish Culture and Civilization Program offers the possibility of getting to know certain aspects of Spanish culture while furthering your knowledge of the Spanish language. Through this program we offer, besides the grammar classes, a wide variety of subjects on Spanish culture that will compliment your program of studies in Spain.
The program is divided into 2 semesters. The minimum course period is 1 term. All of our teachers are licensed to teach culture and all have ample experience teaching Spanish to international students.
Overview and Course Structure:
The Culture and Civilization program is open to all students; however the structure and content of the course differ according to the student’s level of Spanish competency. For beginning and basic students (elemental and básico), the Culture and Civilization students programn offers language classes and an adapted culture program for their levels. For intermediate and advanced students, the Culture and Civilization Program offers an wide range of classes in literature, history, art, sociology and other aspects of Spanish culture.
The upper portion of the Program is divided into two class levels: intermediate and superior. These levels are only used for the grammar portion of the course as all students are taught the same cultural materials. Students start the course with a placement exam. Grammar and conversation continue throughout the rest of the term while students focus on their culture studies.
Each student should be evaluated individually to receive credit for the grammar portion of the course from his/her home institution. In addition, eighty percent class attendence and a passing final exam score are required to receive course credit.
